  • The NC Prevention Report Card and the State’s 2005 Grades

Every two years, the NC Prevention Report Card is released revealing grades for the state in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco. The report card grades are based on national public health goals called Healthy People 2010. The report card serves as a monitoring tool and a call to action across the state.

In 2005, the state received the following prevention grades: "D" in physical activity, "D" in nutrition, and "C" in tobacco. When compared to past Prevention Report Cards, the grades released in 2005 show that the state’s grades have improved, but clearly, much work needs to be done to continue to improve these grades. Statewide and locally-led efforts are needed to help North Carolina make the grade and to improve the health of individuals throughout the state.

Prevention Audits and Prevention Report Cards

All participants in the Prevention 1st Challenge have the opportunity to conduct a Prevention Audit to assess their health-supportive policies and environments. A Prevention Report Card results from the Prevention Audit. Resources available through the Challenge’s website enable participants to create their own Strategic Prevention Plans using a guide that is also provided.

    More About Prevention Grades

Each report card has a total of three Prevention Grades: One for each of the three focus areas--physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco.

The nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco use grades are based on a participant's responses to a series of policy and environment questions about each focus area.

Let's rise to the Challenge and put prevention first!
